Mobile Methadone Units
Mobile Methadone Units
In response to the Opioid epidemic and the rising number of overdoes, Drug Enforcement Authority (DEA) has relaxed rules by allowing OTP’s to outreach methadone treatment and permitted OTP’s to operate mobile methadone unit as long as they meet DEA requirements.
Quality Behavioral Health (QBH) took the initiative and became the first OTP in Michigan to start these services. QBH launched a fleet of custom built buses and specialty vehicles to provide services to individuals addicted with Opioid Use Disorder. We send our mobile team out at different times of day and reach people who may find it difficult to access treatment during regular OTP’s hours of operation.
Mobile units can go where people diagnosed with OUD may congregate—such as homeless shelters, nursing homes, and correctional facilities. Mobile units are a great way to engage people in these settings with treatment services. There will be no need for people to take a bus and line up for hours outside a methadone clinic to dose. Our team will bring methadone to their neighborhood.
We have physicians on the mobile units who assess, diagnose and prescribe buprenorphine or methadone or injectable naloxone. Treatment start immediately and medications will be administered right there and then. All vehicles are equipped with DEA certified safes and methadone pumps to carry and dispense methadone onsite.
Our vehicles are equipped with testing facilities and bathrooms to collect urine specimens. Our team will be led by a clinical coordinator and consist of medical doctor, nurses, medical assistants, peer recovery coaches, master’s level counselors, office manager and commercial drivers.
Besides providing OTP related services, we will also perform COVID-19 testing, prescribe, train and administer ‘reset-O’ treatment software, distribute Narcan kits and provide SUD Health Home services.
