Women’s Specialty Programs
Women's Specific Services Programs
Quality Behavioral Health provides follow up services and referrals pertaining to access to health care and prenatal care, if pregnant. Clients are allowed to schedule appointments for mental health, primary care physician and communicable disease treatment and screening. We provide transportation to appointments when needed as well. We also provide on-site mental health services. We have a contract with Children’s Hospital for any pediatric care and Hutzel Women’s Hospital for women who are pregnant and currently in program.
Medication monitoring guidelines as set forth in the Medication Management Policy shall be employed. Treatment is initiated and carried out with supervised administration by nursing staff. The physician sees the consumer at least weekly during the first month of treatment and at least monthly thereafter, based upon the individual circumstances of the consumer; these medication reviews are documented in the consumer’s record. Staff that administers or supervises administration of medications must first be trained in its use, proper administration, common side effects and allergic characteristics, and symptoms of overdose and management of these.
QBH’s women’s specialty programs include maternal education, parenting classes, self-esteem work shops, coordination with CPS and women’s conferences. We have increased visitation allowance with children. We also provide services such as yoga, acupuncture and massage. Therapeutic interventions for children in the custody of individuals in treatment, address their developmental needs, issues of sexual and physical abuse and neglect.
Quality Behavioral Health does not directly provide services to children. We help parents and children who struggle with behavior problems or connection through real-time coaching sessions. Parents interact with their children while therapists guide families toward positive interactions.
Sufficient case management, transportation, and access to childcare to ensure women/primary caregivers and their dependent children have access to the above-mentioned services. QBH’s case management services help with available supports and coordination with CPS (Child Protective Services), OHS (Office of Head Start), and CMH (Community Mental Health). We provide assistance in applying for health insurance, MRS (Michigan Rehabilitation Services), housing referrals, and transportation to appointments.
Quality Behavioral Health clinicians use a variety of evidence-based practices across all levels of care to engage clients and increase favorable treatment outcomes. Depending on a client’s needs, these methods are generally used in combination:
- Motivational Interviewing: Used with clients in the pre-contemplation, contemplation, and preparation stages of change. This strategy is adaptable to clients from diverse backgrounds and across all levels of care (detoxification and outpatient). It has been shown to increase retention rates and decrease substance use/relapse.
- Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care: This model increases community involvement to reduce substance abuse, decrease relapse rates, and promote substance abuse treatment and recovery through peer support relationships, community events, recovery housing programs, and empowerment initiatives.
QBH offers individual therapy sessions once a week for one hour, along with homework assignments and PHQ-9 screenings for depression. The treatment program also includes various group sessions addressing issues like sexual/physical abuse and parenting. Group topics include:
- Relapse prevention skills
- Specific aspects of addiction
- Support groups for shared mental illness issues
- Parenting, legal problems, job-seeking
- Sleep habits, chronic medical conditions, anger management
- Communication skills, nutrition, and self-care
- Family relationships, job skills, and managing legal issues
- Activities such as art therapy, Zumba fitness, yoga, and acupuncture
Quality Behavioral Health employs staff with a Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology, certified as addiction counselors (CADC and CAADC). All staff members are required to stay up to date with training related to their field. The organization also employs about five peer recovery coaches to assist with service delivery.
A thorough assessment is conducted by medical staff to create a referral if a child is at risk of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Special needs of pregnant or parenting consumers are addressed as part of the MAT process. Services provided internally or by referral include:
- Education on neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), its symptoms, and treatment needs
- Assistance in obtaining evaluation and treatment for infants at risk of NAS
- Referrals to parenting support groups or children’s services, including those for special mental and cognitive needs
- Child care service referrals
- Parenting skills education referrals
- Prenatal care referrals, with compliance tracking as required by federal law
QBH has round the clock client transportation. We have our own ambulance along with numerous vehicles that are all readily available to transport a client in need. Regular safety checks are done on each vehicle. All staff that may transport a client must all have a valid license, which is verified through the Secretary of State. All drivers are provided with proper training to maintain professional conduct and the proper procedure of transportation of clients. Also, they receive training on how to properly respect a client’s privacy rights.
